officials receive reports of an elected armed suspect on campus. city college in san jose police searched the campus for nearly three hours and did not find a suspect. police said there were no reports of gunshots. city college officials say cleanses will continue as normal today. >> president obama is expected to launch as ministration effort today to create new policy is aimed at preventing another mass school shooting. vice- president joe biden was named to head the push for the gun legislation. the president is expected to announce the effort from the white house. white house aides as they press their obama is likely to pursue some tightening of them was including a ban on assault style weapons. is also likely to seek ways to prove mental health resources and school safety. the national rifle association will hold a news coverage today. the nation's largest gun rights lobby said it did not comment on the shooting, " out of respect for the families as a matter of common decency ". it now says it will offer meaningful contributions to make sure such as treasury doesn't happen again. >>

evening at san jose city college. s.w.a.t. teams swarmed the campus yesterday after a caller reported seeing a gunman. heavily armed police officers searched the campus room by room during a three-hour lockdown. the 911 call came in around 4:30 yesterday afternoon. the caller reported seeing a black male possibly armed with a gun at the tech center building. students and faculty were released from classrooms as officers searched the five- story building. for many on campus it was disturbing. >> we definitely barricaded down. we definitely sat there. we hushed our voices, got away from the windows, made sure we weren't near where anybody could look in. and we were worried. we were afraid. >> in the end, police were unable to find any indication that a gunman was on campus but officers say in the wake of the connecticut shooting, they were not taking any chances. >>> as more funerals are eld had for victims of the shooting in connecticut more details are emerging about adam lanza. workers at a newtown hair salon where lanza and his mother were customers said they never heard him speak.
, good night. breaking news out of san jo. right now the san jose city is on lockdown >>> good evening, i'm elizabeth cook. >> i'm ken bastida. we have breaking news out of san jose. the san jose city college campus is on lockdown after unconfirmed reports of a gunman on campus. these are pictures from chopper 5 over the school now. campus police say the school has been locked down since 4:30 this afternoon. someone had record a person with a gun on -- reported a person with a gun on campus. people were ordered to close and lock doors and stay in. campus police say they are doing a room-by-room search of san jose city college but they have not confirmed that there ever is or was a gunman. they wouldn't confir it. earlier a professor said there are classes in the library with hundreds of people. we are keeping an eye on this. roads are shut down at bascomb and moorpark avenues around san jose city college and that's the situation right now. and we are keeping an eye on it and we'll report if we have any updates for you. >>> the tragedy in newtown, connecticut is spurring a national push
